Known as the City of Oaks, Raleigh is the thriving heart of the Triangle. Whether our crews are heading inside the Beltline to inspect a historic property or evaluating a newer build out in Brier Creek or North Hills, we know this city inside and out. Raleigh offers an incredible quality of life, beautiful greenways, and massive events like the State Fair. However, the ground supporting your home is a constant challenge.

Just like the surrounding towns, Raleigh is built on dense Wake County red clay. This native soil constantly expands and contracts depending on the weather. Over time, this extreme movement destroys the stability beneath your heavy exterior slabs, resulting in sunken driveways and cracked, dangerous walkways. At Elite Moisture Solutions, we permanently raise and stabilize your concrete without the massive expense and mess of pouring a brand new slab.

Why Your Concrete Sinks Over Time

sunken driveway

Concrete is an extremely heavy building material. It requires a completely solid, unchanging base to stay flat. Our local clay soil makes that impossible. When heavy spring rainstorms roll through the capital city, fast-moving water washes away the loose dirt directly under your driveway. This creates hidden, empty pockets.

During the hot, dry stretches of a Carolina summer, that same clay soil bakes in the sun and shrinks away from the bottom of the concrete. Add in the daily weight of heavy vehicles parking in the exact same spot, and the soil simply compresses. Eventually, the heavy concrete breaks under its own weight and drops straight down into the voids below.

Signs You Have Concrete Damage

Concrete settlement is usually a gradual process, but the warning signs are hard to miss once you know what to look for. Here is what we regularly see during property evaluations across Raleigh:

  • Driveways and Walkways: You hit a harsh, jarring bump when pulling into your garage after a long commute on I-40. Or, you notice a sharp, raised edge on your front walkway that creates a serious trip hazard for visiting friends and delivery drivers.
  • Slab Foundations: You spot thick, stair-step cracks running up the exterior brickwork of your house. Inside, your heavy front door suddenly rubs against the frame, or diagonal cracks start showing up in the drywall above your windows.
  • Patios: Your backyard patio settles unevenly. Instead of sloping safely away from your siding, the concrete now tilts backward. During heavy rain, this directs water straight against your foundation instead of out into your yard.
  • Pool Decks: One concrete section drops an inch or two below the adjacent slab. This creates a dangerous edge right next to the water, which is a major liability when kids are running around the pool on a hot weekend.

Why Leveling Beats Tearing It Out

driveway demolition

When a concrete slab drops, many homeowners assume they have to hire a demolition crew to rip it all out. A full replacement is a massive headache. Jackhammers are deafeningly loud. Heavy dump trucks tear up your lawn, and the process kicks concrete dust all over your property and your neighbors’ cars. You also have to wait several days for a newly poured slab to cure before it is safe to use.

Concrete leveling is a much cleaner, smarter alternative. We use specialized, high-density polyurethane foam to lift your original concrete back into place. The entire process takes just a few hours and costs significantly less than a new pour. Because the structural foam hardens in a matter of minutes, you can safely park on your driveway the exact same day.

Our Concrete Leveling Process

We focus on precision and keep your property completely clean. You will never see heavy excavators destroying your landscaping. Here is exactly how we permanently stabilize your sunken concrete:

  • Drill: We drill a series of tiny, precise holes through the settled concrete slab. Each one is roughly the size of a penny.
  • Pump: We connect specialized hoses to these ports and inject our high-strength structural foam straight into the unstable dirt below.
  • Lift: The polyurethane material expands instantly when it hits the hidden voids. It compresses the loose soil and gently pushes the heavy concrete precisely back to its original, level height.
  • Patch: We carefully fill the injection holes with fresh cement. We smooth it out and blend the color so the repair is as unnoticeable as possible.

When we finish, your concrete is flat, fully supported, and safe to use right away.
