Downtown Wilson is completely revitalized, and we love seeing the energy around the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park. We spend a lot of our workdays out here, grabbing a quick lunch downtown or evaluating properties in established neighborhoods like Belle Meade, Brentwood, and out by Lake Wilson. Wilson has deep agricultural roots and a fantastic community. The ground underneath your house, however, is completely unpredictable.

Wilson sits right where the Piedmont clay meets the sandy soils of the coastal plain. That volatile mix of dirt expands, shrinks, and shifts constantly with the weather. When it does, your heavy exterior concrete loses its solid support and drops. We fix these dangerous trip hazards. We raise your sinking concrete back to a safe height so you don’t have to pay for a massive replacement project.

Why Your Concrete is Sinking

sunken driveway

A concrete driveway is incredibly heavy. It needs a completely solid base of dirt to hold it up. In Wilson County, our mix of sand and clay makes true stability almost impossible to achieve.

During severe spring storms, heavy sheets of rainwater wash the loose, sandy dirt right out from under your front walkway. This creates deep, hidden voids. When the intense summer heat finally arrives, the clay portions of the soil bake and shrink. Add the daily pressure of parking your heavy pickup truck in the exact same spot, and the remaining dirt simply gives out. The rigid cement eventually snaps under its own weight and plummets into the empty space.

Signs Your Concrete is Damaged

Concrete settlement is a slow process, but you will definitely notice the warning signs before a total collapse happens. Here are the most common hazards we inspect for homeowners across Wilson:

  • Driveways and Walkways: Your tires smack into a hard ledge right at the garage threshold. Or, you notice a jagged sidewalk edge that creates a major trip hazard when you drag the heavy trash can out to the road.
  • Slab Foundations: You spot ugly, stair-step cracks creeping up your exterior brick walls. Inside the house, your front door gets wedged tight in its frame, or diagonal cracks tear through the drywall above your windows.
  • Pool Decks: A large cement panel drops an inch or two near the deep end of the pool. It leaves a sharp, exposed corner right where kids are running around barefoot all summer long.
  • Patios: Your backyard grilling patio starts sloping the wrong direction. Instead of shedding rainwater into the grass, the slab acts like a funnel and dumps puddles directly against your brick siding.

Why Leveling Beats Tearing It Out

driveway demolition

Ripping out an old driveway is almost never the right answer. The demolition process is a complete nightmare. You have to deal with deafening jackhammers and massive dump trucks ruining your carefully cut grass. Fine concrete dust inevitably coats your vehicles and your house. After enduring all that noise and destruction, you are still forced to park out on the street for a full week waiting for wet cement to cure.

Polyurethane foam injection completely avoids the chaos. We save your original concrete. It costs significantly less than pouring a new slab, and because our high-strength foam hardens in minutes, you can safely pull your car back into the driveway the exact same afternoon.

How We Fix Your Concrete

We do not bring loud excavators to your house. We keep the repair totally contained to the sinking slab itself. Here is exactly how we get it flat again:

  1. Drill: We bore a few small holes—roughly the size of a dime—straight through the sunken cement panel.
  2. Lift: We pump a high-density structural foam directly into the empty dirt pockets underneath. The material rapidly expands, packs the loose soil tight, and forces the heavy slab upward.
  3. Level: We carefully control the foam’s expansion. We monitor the concrete as it rises and stop the exact second it sits perfectly flush with the adjacent panels.
  4. Patch: We seal the injection ports with fresh cement. We carefully blend the color to hide the repair.

The final result is clean, flat, and permanently supported concrete.
