French Drain Installation

A French drain, also known as a weeping tile, is trench that is filled with rock and perforated PVC pipe. The purpose of the French drain is to redirect surface and ground water away from an area (in most cases a home or buildings foundation). French drains can either be installed around the exterior foundation walls or can be installed inside the crawlspace around the foundation. Interior French drains must be installed in conjunction with a sump pump.

French Drain Benefits

Efficient Drainage

Both interior and exterior French drain systems direct water away from your home. The extra water will be directed to your septic tank, a sump pump or to a space in your yard that sits lower than your house.

Reduces Risk of Crawlspace/Basement Moisture

Because French drains direct water away from the foundation, it prevents flooding in your basement or crawlspace and removes any excess water in the soil.

The French Drain Installation Process

French drains are installed to remove ground water that is collecting around your home’s foundation or inside your crawlspace or basement.

Dig a Trench

A technician will dig a trench along the foundation wall that is having a drainage issue. The dimensions of the trench will vary based on the severity of the issue.

Lay the Perforated PVC Pipe

The technician will place the perforated pipe into the trench. The pipe should always be sloped from a higher starting point to a lower ending point that is away from the home’s foundation.

Backfill the Trench with Gravel

The technician will cover the pipe with gravel. The gravel is used to filter out any sediment and reduce the chance of the pipe clogging.

From the very first contact, they were very responsive, addressed all concerns, explained the steps they would take to remedy the moisture issue and then performed the work with the same attention to detail and thoroughness. Will definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone who has a moisture, fungal, mold, crawl space issue.

After a year of denying the damages (which occurred on private property - a whole other saga), their insurance adjuster finally agreed to repair/replace our water line. BUT the City of Durham REFUSED to... read more
